COLOMBIAN STEREOTYPES

There are a lot of Colombian stereotypes all over the world, it is also pretty known that we are basically recognized as the drug dealers’ country, but some these stereotypes are that, stereotypes. Even though our history does not really contribute to create a good view from the outside, we are more than just stereotypes or bad thoughts. People may think we are lazy or that we are mad the whole time (People from some regions of Colombia, like Santandereanos, tend to be angry, but this of course creates a feeling of overgeneralization), as in order countries, Colombian people are not used to be given everything they need, people from very young ages start working because they feel the necessity to do it (not matter the reason why).

The biggest stereotype of all, Colombians being drug dealers or drug consumers; we have a strong and almost undestroyed history of drug dealers, the most recognized of is of course Pablo Escobar, but again, outsiders do not know the “good part” behind Pablo Escobar; he was a good citizen too, he did care about family and about other people, his imperium helped people to get job and he also contributed to the construction of houses for the poor. Colombians may know this, but foreigners do not know it.

As in every country, there is a huge amount of stereotypes, people believe we Colombians all have “the rhythm in our blood” but there are some people that do not even know how to dance a good merengue.

The world and each country will be better if we just stopped thinking about people the way we do, we are not lazy, we are not suicidal, we are not a drug dealers country, Colombia has a lot of strengths such as being a rich country in diversity, from pink dolphins to the most beautiful parrots. We should be known for these things and not for the wrong ones.

Underlying Assumptions:Students must be less political than they used to be is a clear assumption as it is pretty obvious that students seem to be involved in all the political context, students even have met in important meetings with politicians. We are more political than we used to be.

False Premises:

This argument is based on a false premise because they are not taking into account that there may be some people getting divorced in that period of time, the premise is also false because as they affirm everybody will be married, they are including in somehow to babies and very young people.

Implicit Arguments: 

The implicit argument here is that the daughters are not being considered able to manage the caring of a farm or estate; there is another implicit argument which basically states that Mr Andrew Potts, as being a man, is capable of providing sustainability for the estate.

Stereotypes:

This is a very common stereotype and it has been present in societies through ages, but girls now have decided to turn it down; girls are choosing now dark colors and they have integrated into their wardrobes. Black color has been named as the color of the glamour, and most women will choose it for an important meeting. 

Assuming causal links

Here, the dead, bloody man on the kitchen is link to the fact that the lock of the door was broken and the blood is linked to the knife; but the possibilities can be others. Where the knife came from will be a good question to ask, who is the man in the kitchen, is he the thief or the house owner, he cut himself by accident or was he hurt. This must be clarified, but of course without these arguments, the author couldn’t be able to draw the conclusion.

Identifying the nature of the link

In this example, the reasons support firmly the conclusion because the reasons are real and they contribute to the conclusion to be precise as well.

False analogies:

They are comparing the foundation of a building with the basis of an argument; foundation and basis are likely to be the same, so if they both are not well then both will collapse, therefore, the analogy is correct.
